EDD Update For 2013

hard drive crusher

Since Pure Planet Recycling launched their Eco Drive Destroyer (EDD) back in 2011 the bespoke hard drive crushing machine has been very busy. Hard drive crushing allows for a physical destruction of the device, disabling the drive from operating. Customers liked the fact that the drives were visibly inoperable and that the destruction could take place within the office or workplace.

In 2013 alone, over 15,000 hard drives have been crushed by Pure Planet Recycling on customers sites or back at our treatment facility. The destroyed drives are then recycled to recover the raw materials contained within for reuse within manufacturing, reducing the needs of virgin material.

EDD runs only on hydraulics, powered by good old fashioned elbow grease, which saves a massive amount of energy. We have compared EDD to that of a similar hard drive crushing machine that uses electricity, in order to calculate the following savings from this year;

400,000 Watt hours of electricity.
9,600 lbs of CO2 emissions.
16.7 lbs of sulphur dioxide.
27.83 Oxides of nitrogen.
3,600 Gallons of waste water emissions from a power plant.

So not only is EDD mobile for use within offices, warehouses and even in the back of our vehicles, it also reduces the environmental impact of hard drive destruction. In order to show how the device works, we created a video of how the device operates which can be seen on our hard drive crushing page. Below are examples of before and after EDD pictures;
