Recycle Week celebrates its 10th anniversary and the theme this year is "Recycling – at home and away" focusing on food waste, metals, plastics, packaging and textiles. The week is organised by WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) and aims to raise awareness to businesses and homeowners of the benefits of recycling in the UK. This year recycle week runs from the 17th-23rd June.

Over the last ten years recycling rates in the UK has dramatically increased and more materials are now being recycled. The week, whilst encouraging increased recycling also plans to look at the success of the last ten years and celebrate this. Activities and promotions will be carried out by local authorities, businesses and local social groups so keep an eye out in your local media on ways to join in.

Pure Planet Recycling has looked at how we can join in and how to help promote recycle week. We looked at our office waste output and whilst we recycle all electricals, paper, card, plastic and metal, we were lacking in recycling our food waste. So we have recently introduced food waste containers for our apple cores, banana skins and left over’s from our lunches in order to reduce our waste. This waste food will be recycled at a local supplier in return for their electrical waste being recycled with us. We will also be helping to further promote this years recycle week from our FaceBook and Twitter accounts and ask for feedback on how you plan to get involved. So please follow us on our Facebook or Twitter page and let us know what you’re up to.
