Ban On Fridge Imports

Ghana have recently introduced a ban on the import of second hand fridges into the country to try and reduce energy consumption and harm to the environment. Fridges containing CFC’s have been banned, however they are still being used in many countries across Africa. Imports of fridges from the West consume too much electricity as they were not built for use in Africa. It is thought the ban on importation and rebates for the trade in for safer, HFC’s fridge upgrades will resolve the problem within Ghana and show the rest of Africa the way forward.

Ghana has historically been a common destination for e-waste originating from the West containing hazardous and toxic materials. There have been high profile cases with e-waste exportation and hopefully this second hand fridge import ban into Ghana will help further reduce this.

Pure Planet Recycling recycle all fridges within the UK, using safe, tried and test recycling methods to extract the gases contained within a fridge and recycle the equipment to material level. Read more on our Fridge / Freezer Recycling or call us on 01234 315496 to see how we can help.
