This Friday, 22nd April 2011, is World Earth Day, a day set in the diary to promote and educate the World on awareness and appreciation of our environment. Over 1 billion people, worldwide, get involved participating in activities that both promote the green cause but also help reduce our environmental impact on the Earth. Activities such as cycling to work, picking up litter in the neighbourhood, buy organic food etc. are encouraged, so that every person can help change their environment. You can make your eco pledge on on the Billion Acts Of Green section of the Earth Day Website. The website provides suggestions of activities and you can add your pledge to the ever growing list.
Earth Day was founded back in 1970 by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson, and 20 years later went Worldwide with 141 nations organising events. Earth Day is now coordinated by the Earth Day Network and is now celebrated by more than 175 countries every year.
