Brother unveil a possible battery replacement technology

A new technology has been developed by Brother Industries with the intention of replacing the need for batteries in small electrical items. The vibrating generator, a battery sized replacement, works from producing electricity from vibrations similar to a dynamo used to power bicycle lights. In order to produce power, the device is shaken a few times to activate the dynamo, this then produces a small amount of electricity, enough to power a remote control or a similar device.

Such a device could replace the huge numbers of batteries across the world powering small electrical items. Many of which do not get segregated upon disposal and end up in landfill sites polluting the environment. With the advent of the Battery Directive, more batteries should enter the treatment process at their end of life, however new technologies that will reduce the amount of batteries used has to be welcomed. We look forward in seeing this product, or a similar technology reaching the market as a viable solution as a battery substitute.
