Philips reveal replacement household LED bulb

The EnduraLED, a new 12 watt bulb was presented by Philips at the Lightfair International trade show in Las Vegas on May 12. It will deliver up to 80 percent of energy savings than its traditional version and last 25 times longer. The bulb is seen by many as the first real alternative to conventional lightbulbs.

The EnduraLED has a life of 25,000 hours, compared to the 1,000-hour life span of a 60-watt incandescent bulb. Rudy Provoost, CEO of Philips Lighting, commented "We have been able to show people around the world that LED lighting can deliver energy efficiency and the warm white light people desire for their homes, without compromise to quality".

It is unclear what the bulb will cost, but as the price of LED light slowly comes down, it will be more cost effective and more environmentally friendly than its counterparts.

Pure Planet Recycling welcomes the advances towards LED lighting being the future of both domestic and business lighting. When replacing your existing tubes ensure they are disposed of using an experienced fluorescent light tube recycling company such as Pure Planet Recycling.
