Landfill Tax Rises Again

In a continued bid to increase Recycling rates in the UK, the government has increased landfill tax on active waste to £48 per tonne, whilst the inert rate has been frozen at £2.50 per tonne. This rise will continue over the coming years to ensure that people are encouraged to recycle or seek other disposal methods as opposed to landfilling waste. Alistair Darling recently announced that the target for landfill tax by the year 2014/2015 is £80 per tonne. These planned increases in tax should divert a further 600,000 tonnes of waste from landfill.
